Metal staircase construction part 1
This is part 1 of a series of videos illustrating the designing, manufacturing and installation of a steel staircase in Bishops Court Cape Town. The staircase is designed on CAD software, all the stringers are HS tubing and the tread bases are 200×6 flat bar. In the next video (part 2) I will be finalizing and installing the American white oak treads as well as the stainless steel balustrades.
Metal Staircase construction Part 2
Part 2 of a series. In the first video I constructed a staircase design from CAD software. At the time I wanted to add under tread LED lighting to complement the staircase design but canceled due to time constraints. In my next staircase project I’ll do a video of how LED lighting can transform an interior staircase using simple Technics to achieve huge returns.
Hand Crafted staircase with landing
This staircase was manufactured by Cape Town Staircases, it is fully cantilevered. What I decided to do in order to hide the supporting steel columns, was to insert the IPE beam into the walls and then plaster after I welded the stringers into place. I used 200×76 channel beams in order to create the double stringers and installed timber treads using Kiaat wood.
Spiral Staircase
We manufactured this beautiful spiral staircase in the workshop using simple geometry. This quick video is part one of 2 showing the installed spiral staircase before cladding the treads using jatoba wood.
